Green Logistics Newsletter Archive
This year has seen more publicity, more hype and, thankfully, more real commitment to green logistics operations globally than ever before. Companies have really begun to realize the economic reality that is dictating this change – and the risks associated with either ignoring the pressure to go green, or doing so half-heartedly.
Companies have been quite open to discussing their efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the movement of their goods so far. However, I expect this trend to shift over the next year, as pressure not just to lower carbon emissions but to go carbon-neutral, or even carbon-negative, creates increasing scrutiny on the level of commitment of companies, and their ability to police their own efforts. As standards of what it means to be ‘green’ start to develop across the transportation and logistics industry, it will become harder and harder to tout yourself as green without meeting those minimum requirements. Going green is going to become something much more concrete, which will be great for those who meet those criteria, and will hopefully push others to do what they must to join them.
Nonetheless I hope to see those in the early stages, or even evaluation process continuing to share their stories, as this can provide some of the most realistic information on the real green pulse of the industry. To hear a small or medium-sized operator talk about their concerns and questions around the business case for going green is one of the most interesting, and often inspirational case studies.
We’ll be reporting on these developments over the coming weeks and months, and plan to develop this newsletter into a more complete resource. If you have questions, suggestions or news to share please get in touch, and I hope to meet some of you at our upcoming events in Zurich, Orlando and San Francisco.
Best wishes for the New Year,
