In the 2008 survey, 62% of respondents reported that they expect to see both a financial and public relations ROI on their green investments over the next three years.  This marks a growth of 21% over last years figure of 41%, and indicates that more medium- and long-term initiatives may now be paying for themselves.  Another area of reported growth is investment in energy efficiency, with 78% of executives now engaged in efficiency progects – a 10% growth over 12 months ago.  Lastly emissions measurements/or reductions jumped an impressive 20% in one year to a 71% adoption rate in the 2008 data.

The new report  demonstrates a polarization in the job titles responsible for green logistics projects.  We were also surprised to find out that a surprisingly large number of companies are opting to develop their own carbon emissions measurement software, rather than adopting an off-the-shelf solution.  Nonetheless another 25% of executives are actively researching which software to use.

The biggest change brought out by the survey was around the change in scrutiny over corporate claims to be green or ‘greener’ then previously, or when compared to a competitor.  A full 91% of respondents told us that they have seen an increase in scrutiny over claims, including 30% who claim that scrutiny has increased greatly in the last two years.
